What makes skiing in Scuol special
A hidden gem in the Alps
cuol is often described as one of the best hidden ski resorts in Switzerland. Because the Lower Engadin sits a little further east and is reached through the Vereina tunnel or by train through the Engadin valley, the area remains pleasantly uncrowded.
Unlike many larger ski resorts, there are rarely long lift lines or crowded pistes. Skiing here feels relaxed and spacious, allowing you to enjoy the mountains at your own pace.
At the same time, Scuol is surprisingly easy to reach by public transport, with trains connecting directly to the village — making it one of the few Swiss ski resorts where you can comfortably arrive without a car.
Slopes for every level
The main ski area above Scuol is Motta Naluns, offering wide, sunny pistes with beautiful views across the Engadin mountains.
For beginners and families, there are also smaller lift areas directly in the villages. In Ftan, Sent and Tarasp you’ll find beginner-friendly slopes with magic carpets and T-bar lifts, perfect for first turns, ski school lessons or relaxed practice close to the village.
Once you’re comfortable on skis, the cable car from Scuol takes you up to Motta Naluns, where a larger network of pistes connects the mountain across Ftan and Sent.
This combination makes Scuol a great ski area for both beginners and experienced skiers.
Beautiful mountain scenery
One of the highlights of skiing in Scuol is the spectacular mountain scenery. From the slopes you look out across wide alpine valleys and untouched landscapes stretching toward Austria and Italy.
One of our favourite viewpoints is Champatsch, where the panorama opens up across the mountains of the Engadin and the nearby Swiss National Park.
From the pistes you can admire peaks such as Piz Ajüz, Piz Lischana, Piz Arina and Mot San Jon, which form the impressive mountain backdrop around the valley.
Mountain restaurants with character
Skiing in Scuol is also about the great mountain restaurants scattered across the ski area.
Enjoy lunch at Prui, well known for some of the best food on the mountain, relax on the terrace at the cozy Alpetta, stop for a drink at the lively La Palma bar, or visit the beautiful new construction of La Motta, which offers both self-service and a served restaurant.
From quick snacks to long sunny lunches, there is something for every taste and mood on the mountain.
