With only 11 rooms, Hotel ÜJA is intentionally small — and that is exactly what many of our guests appreciate most.

Instead of anonymous hotel corridors and standardized rooms, each space at ÜJA has its own character. Some rooms look out toward the mountains, others toward the river Clozza that flows right past the house. Many feature traditional Engadin pine wood (Arvenholz), known for its warm scent and calming atmosphere.

Because the hotel is small, stays naturally feel personal and relaxed. Guests quickly feel at home, conversations happen easily over breakfast or coffee, and every stay is a little different.

A house with history

The building that is now Hotel ÜJA has been part of Scuol for more than 125 years. Over generations the house has been renovated and adapted again and again, leaving behind traces of its long history.

Throughout the hotel you’ll still find solid wood, traditional craftsmanship and hand-carved details that connect the house to the architectural heritage of the Engadin. Rather than redesigning everything from scratch, the goal was to preserve the spirit of the building while gently updating it for modern comfort.

ÜJA is run personally by Simona and Claudio, who live in the house together with their Australian Shepherd Jäx, the hotel dog.

This is a true owner-run boutique hotel. The hosts welcome guests, answer every email and phone call, prepare breakfast, shovel snow in winter and take care of the house day by day. Running the hotel is not just a business but a heart project.

Many guests appreciate this personal atmosphere — the feeling that there are real people behind the place who care deeply about the experience of every stay.

Local, simple and made with care

At Hotel ÜJA we try to keep things small, thoughtful and close to the region. This philosophy is especially visible at breakfast.

Rather than offering a huge buffet, we serve a carefully chosen selection of fresh regional products. Meat comes from Hatecke in Scuol, baked goods from Cantieni in Ftan, who also produce our house jam and their famous “Furniella” chocolate spread. Butter and cheese come from Alp Tamangur in S-Charl, one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in the region.

The idea is simple: good ingredients, local producers and a breakfast prepared with care.
