Mountain Biking in the Lower Engadine

The Lower Engadine is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular regions for mountain bikers. Vast Alpine landscapes, tranquil valleys, and scenic trails make this area a true paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

What many cyclists appreciate about Scuol is that, compared to some of the larger cycling destinations in the Alps, the region is still wild and not very crowded.

From rolling Alpine trails to more technically challenging descents and secluded mountain trails, there are countless ways to explore the mountains on two wheels.

Motta Naluns – Schlivera – Mot da l’Hom – Alp Laret – Ftan

One of the classic alpine hikes around Scuol begins in Motta Naluns, which is easily accessible by cable car or e-bike.

From there, the route heads toward Schlivera and on to Mot da l’Hom, where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Engadin mountains.

From Mot da l’Hom, the trail continues toward Alp Laret and then down to Ftan, combining fast-paced sections with technical alpine terrain.

For those looking for an extra adventure, a detour to the Tasna Valley is highly recommended. The drive past the Valmala Alpine pasture is incredibly beautiful, though parts of the route are exposed and require careful driving.

Overall, this route is best suited for advanced cyclists, but it is one of the most rewarding bike tours in the region.

Ftan Trail Center

The Trail Center Ftan is a great place for a fun and playful biking session where you can improve your skills at the same time.

The center currently offers a handful of different routes with varying levels of difficulty, making it ideal for practicing your technique or warming up before a longer ride.

Unlike some of the larger bike parks in the Alps, this is still a manual trail center without chairlifts or magic carpets—which gives it a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

Local trail builders are constantly improving the trails. In 2025, for example, new features such as tree trunks for balance training were added, making the area even more appealing for skill development.

Piz Clünas

The drive over Piz Clünas is one of the most spectacular adventures in the region.

To reach the summit, you have to tackle an Alpine trail rated as "black," where you'll have to carry your bike in some sections, but the effort is worth it.

The descent offers an incredible ride through high-alpine terrain with sweeping views of the Engadin.

This route can also be combined with the Mot da l’Hom loop hike to spend a longer and very rewarding day in the mountains.

Champatsch – Zuort Farm

Another fantastic tour takes you to Champatsch and offers breathtaking views of the Lower Engadine.

The terrain here is rocky and technically challenging, which makes it particularly appealing to experienced riders.

On the way back, a stop at Hof Zuort is highly recommended—a beautiful historic alpine farmstead with a wonderful terrace, ideal for a relaxing lunch after a morning of biking.
