What makes the Hotel ÜJA a boutique hotel?

Small and intimate

With just 11 rooms, the Hotel ÜJA is intentionally kept small—and that’s exactly what many of our guests appreciate most.

Instead of anonymous hotel hallways and generic rooms, every room at the ÜJA has its own unique character. Some rooms offer a view of the mountains, while others overlook the Clozza River, which flows right past the building. Many are furnished with traditional Engadine Swiss stone pine , known for its warm scent and soothing atmosphere.

Since the hotel is small, the atmosphere here is naturally intimate and relaxed. Guests quickly feel at home; it’s easy to strike up a conversation over breakfast or a cup of coffee, and every stay is a little different.

A House with a History

The building that now houses the Hotel ÜJA has been part of Scuol for more than 125 years. Over the generations, the building has been renovated and remodeled time and again, yet traces of its long history remain.

Throughout the hotel, you’ll still find solid wood, traditional craftsmanship, and hand-carved details that connect the property to the architectural heritage of the Engadin. Rather than redesigning everything from scratch, the goal was to preserve the spirit of the building while gently adapting it to modern comforts.

The result is a place where traditional Alpine charm meets simple, contemporary design.

The man has dark hair and a beard; he is wearing a light blue button-down shirt. They are outside, with a large window behind them reflecting a building.

Your hosts: Simona & Claudio

The ÜJA is run personally by Simona and Claudio, who live on the premises with their Australian Shepherd, Jäx, the hotel dog.

This is a genuine, owner-operated boutique hotel. The hosts welcome guests, respond to every email and phone call, prepare breakfast, shovel snow in the winter, and take care of the hotel day in and day out. Running the hotel isn’t just a business—it’s a labor of love.

Many guests appreciate this personal atmosphere—the feeling that there are real people behind this place who truly care about the experience of every single guest’s stay.

Local, simple, and prepared with care

At Hotel ÜJA , we value a personal atmosphere , small, thoughtful details , and a connection to the region. This philosophy is particularly evident at breakfast.

Instead of a huge buffet, we serve a carefully curated selection of fresh, locally sourced products. The meat comes from Hatecke in Scuol, and the baked goods from Cantieni in Ftan, which also makes our house-made jam and its famous “Furniella” chocolate spread. Butter and cheese come from the Tamangur Alp in S-Charl, one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in the region.

The concept is simple: quality ingredients, local producers, and a breakfast prepared with care.
