Adventures in Scuol:

My personal
recommendations
for every season

I had the privilege of experiencing all these wonderful activities in Scuol firsthand, and I can honestly say that every single one of them has left me with unforgettable memories.

Whether you visit us in winter, spring, summer, or fall, there's always something magical waiting for you. Here's a quick guide to help you plan your perfect day, depending on the season:

Spring

A young man, smiling and wearing a black hat with an orange feather, a blue shirt, and a traditional garment decorated with silver bells, is talking to a person wearing a red hat, with a crowd in the background.

March

Chaland March

A local tradition! If you’re in Scuol on March 1, don’t miss the Chalandamarz! This local tradition, made famous by the tales of Schellenursli, is a beautiful spring festival. Schoolchildren in their traditional costumes ring their cowbells, and the whole village comes together to welcome spring. It’s a heartwarming event and a must-see for anyone who wants to experience local traditions.

Best (Easter) Lunch at Hof Zuort

A wonderful springtime adventure is a hike through the Val Sinestra to the Zuort farm. This peaceful valley is one of the most unspoiled corners of the Lower Engadine, with rushing streams, forests, and an impressive mountain backdrop. The small restaurant is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy a simple, regional lunch before heading back through the valley or directly to Vna.

Hike from the Alpine Institute in Ftan

This easy, 90-minute hike begins atthe Alpine Institute in Ftan and winds through picturesque forests with magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. Even though there is still snow on the mountain peaks, the trail is usually snow-free early in the season thanks to the sun-exposed slopes. Along the way, you can spot the first signs of summer—crocuses, dandelions, and other wildflowers beginning to bloom.

Summer

A scenic mountain landscape with a winding dirt path leading to a rustic house surrounded by green grass and trees, with mountains and a blue sky in the background.

June

Alp Laret for lunch

If you’re in the mood for a trip to the mountains, you should definitely stop by the Beizli on Alp Laret for lunch. The trail via Muoat da l’Hom is my top recommendation, whether you’re hiking or biking. The downhill bike trail is a blast (but is only suitable for intermediate riders). It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. There’s also a direct trail from Motta Naluns that makes the restaurant accessible to (almost) everyone.

July

Mountain Lake Resort at Lai da Padnal

There’s nothing better than a refreshing dip in Lake Padnal in Ftan on a warm summer day. The water may be cool, but it’s so invigorating, and the view of the surrounding mountains makes it all the more beautiful. The lake is also an ideal spot for families, so pack a picnic, grill some sausages, and enjoy a relaxing day by the lake.

Rafting on the Inn River

Rocky beaches, cold pools, and rafting adventures. If you’re looking for a little more adventure, the Inn is just the place for you. You can relax on the rocky beaches, cool off in the cold pools, or—for the adventurous—book a rafting tour on the river. You can even try your hand at fly fishing in the pristine waters. It’s a fun and refreshing way to experience the area’s natural beauty.

September

National Park Bike Marathon

If you're a bike enthusiast (like us!), you won't want to miss the National Park Bike Marathon in August. Whether you're participating or cheering on the riders, it's an exciting event that brings people from all over the world together. The route winds through some of the most beautiful scenery, making this weekend an unforgettable experience.

October

Day Trip to S-Charl

A day trip to S-Charl is a truly unique experience. It’s an incredibly remote village that feels like stepping into another world—untouched and wild. You can easily get there by public transportation (which is included in our Guest Card Plus). If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even ride a horse to S-Charl. The San Jon Ranch offers one-of-a-kind horseback riding excursions, ranging from day trips to multi-day adventures.

November

Experience God at Tamangur

Europe’s highest Swiss stone pine forest. October is the perfect time to visit God da Tamangur, Europe’s highest Swiss stone pine forest. As the leaves change color, the landscape transforms into a tapestry of reds, oranges, and browns. The view is breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere makes the forest a wonderful place to connect with nature.

The best (free) place to visit near the hotel

You should visitVastur in Sent on a winter day. This charming little cabin is located above the village and features a beautiful terrace with a breathtaking view of the Lower Engadine. The roughly 90-minute winter hike leads there directly from the hotel, making it a perfect little adventure. On snowy days, free sleds are provided for the descent to Sent, making the return trip just as much fun as the climb.

Ice Skating in Sur En

Skating through nature in Sur En is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s an experience I’ll never forget—ice skating amidst the snow-covered landscape is both peaceful and exciting. But a word of warning: this isn’t your typical ice rink. The natural ice rinks are a bit uneven, with small hills and dips, so they’re definitely better suited for those who already have some experience ice skating.

Night Sledding in Ftan

A winter highlight. Looking for a magical winter adventure? Don’t miss night sledding in Ftan! Every Thursday evening during the winter season, the sledding run is lit up, offering an unforgettable ride under the starry sky. A fun and unique experience for all ages—perfect after a day on the slopes or before a cozy dinner.
