What Makes Skiing in Scuol So Special
A hidden gem in the Alps
Scuol is often described as one of the best-kept secrets among Switzerland’s ski resorts. Since the Lower Engadine is located a bit further east and can be reached via the Vereina Tunnel or by train through the Engadine Valley, the area remains pleasantly uncrowded.
Unlike many larger ski resorts, you'll rarely find long lines at the lifts or crowded slopes here. Skiing here is relaxed and offers plenty of space, so you can enjoy the mountains at your own pace.
At the same time, Scuol is surprisingly easy to reach by public transportation, as there is a direct train connection to the village—making it one of the few Swiss ski resorts that can be easily reached without a car.
Slopes for every skill level
The main ski resort above Scuol is Motta Naluns, which offers wide, sunny slopes with a magnificent view of the Engadin mountains.
For beginners and families, there are also smaller ski areas right in the villages. In Ftan, Sent, and Tarasp, you’ll find beginner-friendly slopes with magic carpets and T-bar lifts —ideal for your first turns, ski school lessons, or relaxed practice near the village.
Once you feel confident on skis, the cable car from Scuol will take you up to Motta Naluns, where an extensive network of slopes connects the mountain via Ftan and Sent.
This combination makes Scuol a great ski resort for both beginners and experienced skiers.
Beautiful mountain scenery
One of the highlights of skiing in Scuol is the spectacular mountain scenery. From the slopes, you can look out over vast Alpine valleys and unspoiled landscapes that stretch all the way to Austria and Italy.
One of our favorite viewpoints is Champatsch, which offers a sweeping panoramic view of the Engadin mountains and the nearby Swiss National Park.
From the slopes, you can admire peaks such as Piz Ajüz, Piz Lischana, Piz Arina, and Mot San Jon, which form the impressive mountain backdrop surrounding the valley.
Mountain Inns with Character
Skiing in Scuol is also all about the great mountain restaurants scattered throughout the entire ski area.
Enjoy lunch at “Prui,” known for some of the best dishes on the mountain; relax on the terrace of the cozy “Alpetta”; stop by the lively “La Palma” bar for a drink; or visit the beautiful new “La Motta” building, which offers both a self-service area and a full-service restaurant.
From quick snacks to leisurely lunches in the sun—there's something for every taste and mood up on the mountain.
